Australian captain Ricky Ponting has matured over the years as a captain is what many cricket legends and critics feel but his effectiveness and efficiency as a batsman has gone down. Somehow he scores a belligerent century in the first match of a series and struggles for form in the rest of the series. This has increased the pressure on the already weakened and out of form Australian batting line up.

They badly need Ponting to score big every time he goes out to the crease which is not possible. But Ponting has the ability to do that, but the captaincy issue is pulling him down from performing and he is not able to rise to the occasion and raise his standards in such situations. If captaincy is given to some other person in the team and if Ponting is relieved of it, he has many fruitful years ahead to give for the Australian cricket team.
