There are many types of cricketers some like Sachin ,Lara who we always talk about some like Ganguly who talk about themselves some like Dhoni whom we talk for the current period but there are very few gentlemen like Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman born November 1, 1974, in Hyderabad , India about whom the whole nation talks and look forward to whenever Indian team is in a bad condition.
This man is always in the scheme of things when India are prevailing in a no-hope situation . Did anyone even have the slightest idea that we would win the test match against Australia after being enforced a follow on . When we were lazy to dream there was this man making it happen in reality. Go and check the number of times he has been the not out batsman when India got all out had the last man been allowed to play in international cricket this man would have taken us home.
Laxman bats right-handed and occasionally bowls off-spin. He is noted for his superb timing and the ability to hit against the spin, reminiscent of his role model Mohammad Azharuddin . Laxman is particularly noted for the skillful use of his wrists, which allow him to flick the ball to various places, but usually through the leg side. This great man’s wrist rotates 360 degree and he uses the bat like a whip, he can flick the ball outside off stump and can play the ball on his chest through covers. During the Chennai test when Sachin got us home this man played a straight drive or should I call it a defense I don’t know but everyone in the ground including the fielders and the bowler were absolutely stunned by his classy touch. It is sad to know that his place in team is in doubt on most occasions but he never complains instead he makes the bat do the talking
Laxman is noted most for his batting against Australia, in both tests and one-day Internationals. As of November 8, 2008, he has scored 6 out of his 13 test hundreds, and 4 out of his 6 ODI hundreds against Australia. He has two double-hundreds in tests, both of them against Australia, including his personal best of 281 at Kolkata. He has also scored 10 fifties in tests and 2 in ODIs against Australia. On the whole he is an unsung hero, a titan we must remember and not forget this legend. Keep going Laxman you are really very special for all of us if not for the BCCI.
